As outbreak rages, India orders critical social media posts to be taken down: NYT
April 26, 2021

As the coronavirus situation worsens in India, the Indian government has ordered new social media restraints asking Twitter and Facebook to take down posts criticizing the government's handling of the pandemic.

International daily the New York Times reports that the order aimed at removing over hundred posts including calls for Prime Minister Narendra Modi, to resign.

The Modi led BJP government is under attack for ignoring the advice of experts about the risks of loosening restrictions, after the party held large political rallies with little regard for social distancing.
