Secretary Narcotics Control Humaira Ahmed says society play a crucial role in drug addiction control by fostering awareness, promoting prevention measures, and providing a supportive environment for individual struggling with addiction to seek help and rehabilitation.

She was talking in an exclusive discussion program of Planet FM 87.6 which was broadcast in connection with International Day against drug abuse and illicit trafficking being observed today.

She said there is dire need of support and treatment to help drug affected people.

Speaking on the occasion, UNAIDS Country Director for Pakistan and Afghanistan Yuki Takemoto said that Pakistan and Afghanistan can collaborate to control drug addiction through joint initiatives, including border control measures and joint awareness campaign, to combat the illicit drug trade and promote rehabilitation.

During the discussion UNODC Representative Jeremy Milsom said that there is need for support, guidance and coordination on international efforts to prevent drug abuse, promote treatment, and address the root causes of addiction.

Later, these dignitaries met with Director General Radio Pakistan Muhammad Tahir Hassan and expressed their interest for collaboration with Radio Pakistan to work against drug addiction.

The DG Radio Pakistan presented souvenirs to the distinguished guests.
