Police launches the most sweeping crackdown in Myanmar
February 27, 2021

In Myanmar, police has launched the most sweeping crackdown in towns and cities across the country to prevent people from protesting against military coup.

The coup has brought hundreds of thousands of protesters onto the streets and drawn condemnation from Western countries, with some imposing limited sanctions.

In the main city of Yangon, police took up positions at usual protest sites and detained people as they congregated.

Three domestic media outlets said a woman was shot and killed in the central town of Monwya.
