The brutal murder of four members of a Dalit family by the upper caste Hindus in Uttar Pradesh’s Prayagraj district over a land dispute sparked protests in the region.

Local residents accused police of negligence in protecting the Dalit family.

A written complaint to the police by one of the relatives of the victim family said the members of the upper-caste family had issued threats to the Dalit family in the past.

Local residents said the Dalit family had approached local police station to lodge an FIR but they were rebuffed.
