Inspector General Islamabad Police Ali Nasir Rizvi has said non-lethal weapons were used to clear D-Chowk and adjoining areas from protestors in the capital.

Addressing a news conference along with Chief Commissioner Islamabad Muhammad Ali Randhawa today, he said a total of 954 protestors were arrested including 610 yesterday.

He said over two hundred vehicles were impounded and weapons of different sorts including pistols and Klashinkovs were recovered from the protestors. 

The Inspector General said search operation is still continuing. He said terrorism will not be allowed under the guise of protest.

Referring to the damages inflicted by the protestors, he said strict legal action will be initiated against them and their abettors. He expressed the commitment to protecting the lives and properties of the people.

In his remarks, the Chief Commissioner Islamabad said nobody will be allowed to take law in their hands and challenge the writ of state. He said all the law enforcement agencies played their role to handle the situation in the federal capital.

He said data of Afghan nationals will be verified and only those possessing the NOCs will be allowed to live in the federal capital. 

Meanwhile, in a statement today, Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences has clarified that news circulating on social media regarding the death toll or nature of injuries of protestors are baseless.

The statement said during PTI protest, 66 Law Enforcement Personnel and 36 civilians were brought to PIMS emergency and majority of them have been discharged after first aid treatment, having minor injuries. It added a few of them are admitted for further treatment.
