Analysts urge UN Human Rights Council to take steps for access of independent observers into IIOJ&K
February 28, 2021

Abdullah Gul (Defense Analyst): Pakistan is a responsible member of the international community and, unlike India it wants to adopt diplomatic measures to resolve any dispute. Pakistan is not satisfied with the efforts of the United Nations to resolve the Kashmir issue. India is involved in gross human rights violations in IIOJK. The black laws imposed by Indian authorities in IIOJK are against humanity. Pakistan has asked the UN and international community that independent international observers should come and see the actual human rights situation in IIOJK. India is habitual of violating ceasefire agreements at LoC. India being a nuclear state behaves very immaturely. New Delhi’s hegemonic agenda is posing a serious threat to regional peace and security. The people of Kashmir have been facing severe lockdown since August 5, 2019. There is food shortage, target killings and gang rapes which are being used as a weapon to silence the voice of Kashmiri people. India is envious of Pakistan's improving reputation at the international front. The western powers are using India as a proxy against China. The world has maintained a criminal silence on the Kashmir dispute for strategic and economic interests. Pakistan has provided sufficient evidence to world to expose India's state sponsored terrorism. Prime Minister Imran Khan has emerged as an ambassador of Kashmiri people. Pakistan has the option to respond militarily to Indian hostility, but we always prefer peace over conflict. India must refrain from bringing Pakistan to a point where no return is possible.

Dr. Zahid Anwar Khan (IR Expert): Pakistan has pursued an effective policy to highlight Indian atrocities and worst human rights violations in IIOJK. The United Nations must take strict action against New Delhi to stop Indian brutalities in the held valley. It is a good development that the new administration in Washington is concerned with the human rights situation in IIOJK. The United States can play a significant role in resolving the Kashmir dispute in accordance with the will of Kashmiri people. It is a diplomatic victory of Pakistan that the global community has started taking notice of Indian atrocities in the held valley. Kashmir is an unresolved agenda of partition between Pakistan and India. A strong economy of Pakistan is key to resolving the Kashmir issue. Pakistan has a clear stance that Kashmir is an international dispute and must be resolved in accordance with the UN resolutions.

Aftab Ur Rehman Rana (President, Sustainable Tourism Foundation Pakistan): Inauguration of Nandana heritage trail by PM Imran Khan is an important development as far as tourism is concerned. The place holds a great historical importance. There are many archaeological and historical sites in the salt range. We can promote cultural tourism by exploring more places in these areas. It is appreciable that the incumbent government is taking corrective measures to promote tourism. Pakistan is the land of great historical civilizations. Pakistan has great potential to promote tourism. We are blessed with all seasons and landscapes with a rich cultural diversity.
