Minister for Planning and Chairman of the National Logistics Board, Ahsan Iqbal, has directed the National Logistics Corporation (NLC) to prioritize the expansion of the Sost Dry Port and establishment of Khunjerab Border Terminal as strategic hubs to promote Pakistan's exports and strengthen regional trade connectivity.

He issued the directives while chairing the 68th meeting of the National Logistics Board in Islamabad today.

Ahsan Iqbal said an efficient, integrated and technology-driven logistics system is essential for achieving export-led growth, enhancing industrial competitiveness, attracting investment and strengthening regional connectivity under the government's URAAN Pakistan initiative.

He said improving logistics is a national economic imperative that will help position Pakistan as a regional connectivity hub linking South Asia, Central Asia, China and the Middle East.

The Minister also called for the establishment of a state-of-the-art driving academy meeting international standards to train skilled drivers for global markets.

He emphasized equipping trainees with foreign language skills to facilitate cross-border trade and logistics, particularly under the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC).

The Minister also appreciated NLC's role in modernizing Pakistan's logistics sector and called for accelerated efforts to remove bottlenecks and develop a logistics system that supports higher exports and sustainable economic growth.

During the meeting, the Board was briefed on NLC's progress in promoting regional connectivity, including the establishment of Forward Transit Trade Hubs at Serhatabat in Turkmenistan, Termez in Uzbekistan and Kashgar in China.

It was also informed about new initiatives aimed at strengthening logistics infrastructure and enhancing value addition and exports of agricultural products.
