Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar has reiterated the categorical national stance that any meddling with Pakistani waters by India will not be tolerated at any cost and will be taken as an act of war.
Winding up the debate in Senate over recent escalation between Pakistan and India, he said Pakistan will issue a dossier through its diplomatic missions abroad to highlight the legal aspects of Indus Water Treaty and impart awareness about India's impulsive and illegal action of suspending the Treaty.
Ishaq Dar said Indus Waters Treaty is a matter of 240 million lives. He said the Treaty has never been suspended before even when Pakistan and India were at full-fledged war against each other in 1965 and 1971.
Ishaq Dar said holding this international treaty in abeyance under the pretext of an incident for which there is even no evidence against Pakistan, indicates India's malafide intent.
He said India has a track record of using different incidents for taking unilateral illegal actions as it did in August 2019 by revoking Jammu and Kashmir's internationally recognized disputed territory status just five months after the Pulwama incident.
He said Pakistan will continue to contest its strong legal, political and moral standing on the issue while conversely, India's baseless and hollow rhetoric after the Pahalgam incident has collapsed miserably.
Ishaq Dar briefed the members of the House that he interacted with the foreign ministers and prime ministers of many countries including Saudi Arabia, China, Qatar, UAE, UK, Turkiye, Azerbaijan, Kuwait, Bahrain and Hungary. He said he briefed them about Pakistan's principled position on the issue.
He especially mentioned the expression of all-out and fraternal support for Pakistan by China and Turkiye.
He thanked the members of the House for demonstrating unity while representing their respective federating units that whenever the matter of national security arises everyone of us stands united beyond all political affiliations.
Briefing the House about Pakistan's success on the diplomatic front, the Deputy Prime Minister said that the term "Jammu and Kashmir" was included, while the name "Jammu and Kashmir Resistance Front" was excluded from the press release issued by the UN Security Council, following Pakistan's objections. He added that it was incorrectly written in the press release that the Jammu and Kashmir Resistance Front had claimed responsibility for the Pahalgam incident. He further clarified that Pakistan pointed out that the Jammu and Kashmir Resistance Front has neither accepted any responsibility nor is there any evidence to support such a claim.
Besides, Minister for Parliamentary Affairs Tariq Fazal Chaudhry said all the political parties are standing shoulder to shoulder with the security forces against any Indian eventuality. He said the armed forces of Pakistan are fully capable of defending the motherland.
Those, who spoke on the occasion, include Kamil Ali Agha, Dr Sarmad Ali, Saifullah Abro, Shahzaib Durrani, Dost Muhammad Khan, Afnanullah Khan, Ahmed Khan, Muhammad Abdul Qadir, Aon Abbas, Nadeem Ahmed Bhutto, Hidayatullah Khan, Syed Masroor Ahsan, Abdul Shakoor Khan, Bilal Ahmed Khan, Syed Masroor Ahsan, Mohammad Humayun Mohmand, Saleem Mandviwalla, Shahadat Awan, Zeeshan Khanzada.
The House has now been prorogued.
