A Russian strike hit a military facility in western Ukraine damaging five fighter jets.

In a statement in Kyiv, Commander-in-chief of Ukraine's armed forces Valery Zaluzhny said up to 40 missiles and 35 drones were launched during the overnight attack.

Regional authorities said the Russian attack hit a military facility in the western city of Khmelnytsky putting five aircraft out of action.

A number of explosions sparking fires in buildings were heard that left one person dead and several injured.
