September 29, 2024

Pakistan and Oman have agreed to the early finalization of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on labour and manpower exchange.

An agreement to this effect was reached during a meeting between Minister for Overseas Pakistanis Chaudhry Salik Hussain and Omani Labour Minister Dr. Mahad bin Said bin Ali Baowain in Muscat.

Speaking on the occasion, Chaudhry Salik Hussain said the Ministry of Overseas Pakistanis is upgrading technical training centers in Pakistan to modern standards, enabling the workforce to meet the certification requirements of individual countries and regions.

He further announced that the Ministry will soon implement a compulsory pre-departure orientation program for all workers going abroad. This program will educate them about labor laws, workers' rights and responsibilities, and the cultural sensitivities of their host countries.

The Minister also offered to facilitate the dispatch of well-trained human resources from Pakistan through the Government-owned Overseas Employment Corporation, which maintains a database of over 500,000 Pakistanis in various fields.

In his remarks, Omani Labour Minister expressed the commitment of the Government of Oman to streamline the migration process for workers and to address any existing challenges.
