The Senate unanimously adopted a resolution calling for a coordinated national effort to curb Pakistan’s rapid population growth and prevent the country’s demographic dividend from turning into a demographic time bomb.

The resolution, moved by PPP leader Sherry Rehman, called on the government to take all necessary measures in coordination with provincial governments, parliamentarians, public and private sector officials, media practitioners, religious scholars and community leaders.

It urged a whole-of-country approach to reduce the population growth rate through intensive information campaigns, expanded family planning services, scaling up the Lady Health Workers Programme, budgetary incentives and improved delivery of reproductive health services.

Petroleum Minister Ali Pervaiz Malik has said the issues faced by gas consumers in Balochistan will be addressed.

He was responding to a question during the Question Hour in the Senate today.

The Minister said he contacted Balochistan Chief Minister Sarfraz Bugti in this regard, and it has been decided to jointly devise a mechanism to resolve the problems of gas consumers in the province, particularly those related to the slab system.

Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi has said he had travelled to Iran to help address the ongoing crisis, not to negotiate a defence agreement.

Taking the floor in the Senate today, he said the Prime Minister has specifically assigned him responsibilities in connection with the evolving situation and the ongoing conflict.

The Interior Minister strongly criticized JUI-F Chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman over his remarks about the state.

He further accused certain political elements of using Islam for political and personal gains.

The House also passed eight bills.

These include the Higher Education Commission (Amendment) Bill, 2026, the NFC Institute of Engineering and Technology Multan (Amendment) Bill, 2026, the National Textile University (Amendment) Bill, 2026, the National Rahmatul-lil-Aalameen Wa Khatamun Nabiyyin Authority (Amendment) Bill, 2026, the Life Insurance (Nationalization) (Amendment) Bill, 2026, the Archival Material (Preservation and Export Control) (Amendment) Bill, 2026, the Centres of Excellence (Amendment) Bill, 2026 and the National College of Arts Institute (Amendment) Bill, 2026.

Besides, several reports were also laid before the Upper House.
