Renowned cardiologist Dr. Shahid Iqbal has welcomed the establishment of the Jinnah Institute of Cardiology, describing it as a positive step towards improving healthcare facilities for heart patients.

In an exclusive interview with Radio Pakistan correspondent Qasim Bukhari, he lauded the Punjab Government's initiative to establish cardiac catheterization laboratories at district and tehsil levels, saying the facilities would improve access to cardiac care for patients.

Dr Shahid Iqbal said cardiovascular diseases are a major cause of death worldwide, while the prevalence of heart disease has also increased significantly in Pakistan, which is an alarming situation.

The cardiologist advised people to avoid self-medication, particularly in the case of cardiac patients, as it can prove life-threatening.
