The Ministry of Religious Affairs and Interfaith Harmony has drawn the attention of the Pakistani Zaireen that the Al-Sheeb border crossing between Iraq and Iran has been closed.
According to a press release issued by the Ministry, this border crossing has been closed since 21st of this month. Hence, passenger, vehicular and commercial traffic has been suspended until further notice.
Al-Sheeb is the only authorized land border crossing for Pakistani Zaireen travelling to Iraq through Iran. In view of the closure, Zaireen cannot use any alternative land crossing without prior authorization from the Iraqi authorities. At present, entry into Iraq is possible through Baghdad and Najaf international airports.
All Ziarat Group Organizers (ZGOs) are directed not to dispatch Pakistani Zaireen towards the Al-Sheeb border crossing until its reopening is officially confirmed or an alternative land route is formally authorized by the Iraqi authorities.
All intending pilgrims are advised to verify the latest travel arrangements with their respective ZGOs before commencing their journey and to avoid travel through the closed crossing.
All concerned ZGOs shall ensure strict compliance with these instructions and promptly communicate this information to their registered pilgrims to prevent inconvenience, stranding of passengers and associated logistical difficulties.
