The official name of the tripartite agreement among Pakistan, Saudi Arabia, and Türkiye will be the Makkah Defence Alliance, and its first Secretary General will be from Pakistan.
This was announced by Türkiye’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Hakan Fidan, while briefing the media in Istanbul today.
He said the secretariat of the alliance will be established in Riyadh.
Hakan Fidan further said that the Makkah Defence Alliance will be institutionalized to promote regional peace, security, stability, and prosperity.
He said the alliance is based on the principles of defence and international law, including respect for the sovereignty and territorial integrity of countries and non-interference in domestic affairs.
Hakan Fidan emphasized that the alliance is not directed against any specific state and remains open to participation by friendly countries that adhere to these principles.
He said the Makkah Defence Alliance is complementary to the other alliances to which its member countries are party and reflects their commitment to regional peace and security.
