Minister for Information Technology Gilgit-Baltistan Hussain Shah has said that the region has been put on the path of development and prosperity due to the keen interest of Prime Minister Imran Khan.

In an exclusive interview with News and Current Affairs Channel of Radio Pakistan in Islamabad today, he said the incumbent government created the ministry of IT to introduce the local youth with the modern technology.

He said reforms are being introduced to bring positive change in the lives of people of Gilgit-Baltistan.

The Minister said youth of Gilgit-Baltistan excelled in diverse fields. He said the students of Gilgit Baltistan were not provided with the essential facilities by the successive governments in the past.

Hussain Shah said that bringing reforms in the region was a long-standing demand of the people of Gilgit-Baltistan that was being materialized by the government of PTI.

The GB Minister said they had no magic lamp to change the fate of people overnight. He said the government was taking concrete steps to promote information technology in the region. He said that an IT Park was set up in Gilgit-Baltistan that was also visited by Prime Minister Imran Khan.

Hussain Shah said the government would set up IT parks in Skardu, Diamer and Hunza-Nagar while IT centers would be established in each district headquarters. He said that Federal Ministry of Information Technology was cooperating with them in this regard.

Hussain Shah said that the government was taking practical steps to impart modern technological education to local youth.

He said that local youth would be sent to China for IT education. He said on completion of education, these students would play a leading role in promotion of information technology not only in Gilgit-Baltistan but in every corner of Pakistan also.

The GB Minister said the government was going to set up a digital library in Karakorum University that would help students to get the required information in minimum possible time with one click of keyboard.

He said that information technology couldn’t be promoted without provision of internet facility. He said that the government would provide internet facility to the far-flung areas of the region. He criticized the past governments for their failure to deliver and said that they could not initiate a single project for the welfare of people.

The Minister said that the successive governments launched few projects only to get commissions while ignoring public welfare. The roads built by the previous government were dug to lay down fibers and lines.

He said that the incumbent government made a remarkable increase in the annual budget of development programmes. He said that the government has also approved a welfare package. He said the government was trying to resolve the issue of shortage of doctors in the region.

Hussain Shah said that they were taking practical steps to resolve the problems and issues of people. He said that concrete steps being taken the incumbent government would start to bear fruit within a few months.
