Palestine Liberation Organization has called on the international community to reject U.S. sanctions imposed on officials of the International Criminal Court.

In a statement a member of PLO Executive Committee, Hanan Ashrawi, said that international justice and legitimacy are under "a U.S. retaliatory attack."

She said that "punishing, harassing or persecuting officials of the International Criminal Court for carrying out their duties to investigate war crimes and other grave violations are unlawful and unacceptable."

Earlier, US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo announced sanctions on the prosecutor of the International Criminal Court, Fatou Bensouda, objecting to an investigation of US soldiers for alleged war crimes in Afghanistan.
