Analysts appreciate vibrant role of OIC in highlighting the Kashmir issue
November 07, 2021

Dr. Huma Baqai (IR Expert): Pakistan is the country that is keeping the Kashmir issue alive at all international forums. Whatever is happening under Modi's regime in Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir, highlighting it is moral obligation to people of Kashmir. Pakistan is continuously exposing cruel Indian face in front of the world. The atrocities being committed in IIOJ&K by the Indian forces are war crimes. The world organizations have termed Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir as the most militarized zone in the world. OIC is an important Islamic organization and must be on the front foot to stop the massive genocide in the held valley. We need to urge the world to impose sanctions on India. We must not restrict ourselves to passing resolutions on Kashmir only. Rather, we should take more tangible measures.

Masood Khalid (Former Ambassador): India never allows independent observer groups of the United Nations and OIC to visit Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir. Pakistan on the other hand has always welcomed observer groups and frequently called for third-party involvement to settle the dispute in Kashmir. After the illegal move of the Indian government in IIOJ&K, the Indian forces have turned the valley into world's largest prison. They have been committing worst atrocities and massive genocide in the occupied valley. The world must not adopt double standards and there is a need to take concrete measures to give the Kashmiris their right to self-determination as committed in the UN resolutions. Kashmiris are determined and continuing their freedom struggle with full momentum. OIC being an important regional organization must play an important role in exposing Indian policies in the Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir.

Ali Muhammad Khan (Minister of State for Parliamentary Affairs): Pakistan is located at an important geographical location and remains a key player in world affairs. Historically, Pakistan played an important role in bringing the United States and China closer. Pakistan also played an important role during USSR invasion of Afghanistan. The world acknowledges the role of Pakistan in war against terror. Now in the current regional scenario, Pakistan is making all out efforts to convince the world to support the Afghan people to avert any humanitarian crises in Afghanistan. Pakistan due to its historical, religious and geographical location plays a complex role in international foreign policy. Moreover, Pakistan wants a civilized relationship with the United States and would like to improve bilateral trade ties. Pakistan wants broad-ranging, long-term and stable relations with all the neighboring countries including Iran, Bangladesh, China and even India to promote economic cooperation and peace in the region.

Najam-ul-Saqib (Former Ambassador): As the virus spread across the world, Washington moved quickly to designate Pakistan a priority country for emergency coronavirus assistance. Moreover, Pakistan is among the countries with greater threat of being affected by the climate change and Washington appreciates Pakistan's policies in this regard. However, there is need to eliminate trust deficit between both the countries particularly after the withdrawal of NATO forces from Afghanistan. It is a fact that both the countries have mutual areas of interest to build a more substantive and broad-based relationship. The present government is making all out efforts to bring normalcy in bilateral relations with the United States. Pakistan has shifted its focus from geo-politics to geo-economics and is working to improve its trade relations with the regional countries. China Pakistan Economic Corridor project is a sign of exemplary friendship between China and Pakistan and it is going to bring an economic revolution in the country. It is good development that the present government is looking toward its nontraditional trade partners to improve intraregional business volume and shore up economic stability.
