Begum Kulsoom Nawaz has expired in London.
She had been suffering from cancer and was under treatment at London's Harley Street Clinic.
Begum Kulsoom Nawaz, wife of former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif is survived by her husband and four children, Hassan, Hussain, Maryam and Asma.
Begum Kulsoom had been placed on life support at London's Harley Street Clinic as her health began deteriorating earlier on Tuesday.
The three-time former first lady was diagnosed with early-stage lymphoma in August last year and had been in London since, where she underwent multiple surgeries and at least five chemotherapy sessions.
Begum Kulsoom Nawaz was elected to Lahore's NA-120 constituency in a by-poll, but culd not take oath due to illness.
Begum Kulsoom served as first lady of Pakistan for three non-consecutive terms from 1990-1993, 1997-1999 and 2013-2017.
She had also served as president of the PML-N from 1999 to 2002.
She was born in 1950 in Lahore to a Kashmiri family. Her maternal grandfather Ghulam Mohammad Baksh, better known by his ring name, The Great Gama, is considered one of the greatest wrestlers of all time. Begum Kulsoom attended Islamia College and graduated from the Forman Christian College in Lahore. She received a Master's degree in Urdu from Punjab University in 1970.
President, PM, COAS express grief over sad demise of Begum Kulsoom Nawaz
President Dr Arif Alvi, Prime Minister Imran Khan, Army Chief General Qamar Javed Bajwa have expressed grief over the sad demise of Begum Kulsoom Nawaz.
In his statement, the President commiserated with the bereaved family.
Prime Minister, in his statement, said all facilities will be provided to the family and heirs of Kulsoom Nawaz as per law.
He directed Pakistani High Commission in London to assist in provision of all necessary facilities to the heirs of the deceased.
Imran Khan said Kalsoom Nawaz was a brave lady.
He also commiserated with family of the deceased.
In his statement, Army Chief, General Qamar Javed Bajwa expressed grief and heartfelt condolence to the bereaved family.
In a tweet issued by the Director General ISPR, Major General Asif Ghafoor, the Army Chief prayed eternal peace for the departed soul.
Meanwhile, Chairman Senate, Muhammad Sadiq Khan Sanjrani, Deputy Chairman, Saleem Mandviwala, Speaker National Assembly Asad Qaisar, Deputy Speaker, Qasim Khan Suri, Foreign Minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi and leader of other political parties have also expressed deep sorrow and grief over the death of Kulsoom Nawaz.
In their separate statements, they comisserated with the bereaved family and paid rich tribute to Kalsoom Nawaz's social and political services, she rendered during her life.
The other leaders, who extended condolences, include PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, former President Asif Ali Zardari, Qaumi Awami Tehreek Chief Ayaz Lateef Palijo, ANP Chief Asfandyar Wali, MQM Leader Amir Khan, PML-Q Chief Chaudhry Shujat Hussain and Jamat-e-Islami leader Liaqat Baloch.
Minister for Information and Broadcasting Fawad Ahmad Chaudhry has also expressed deep grief and sorrow over the sad demise of Begum Kulsoom Nawaz.
In a condolence message, he said that Begum Kalsoom Nawaz was a brave woman.
The Minister said the news about the death of Kulsoom Nawaz was communicated to Prime Minister Imran Khan during a meeting regarding Local Government.
He said the Prime Minister, during the meeting, paid rich tribute to the former first lady.
Fawad Chaudhry commiserated with the bereaved family and workers of Pakistani Muslim League as well.
He also prayed that Almighty Allah may rest her soul in peace.
The Governors of Sindh and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Imran Ismail and Shah Farman, Chief Minister Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Sardar Usman Buzdar and Mehmood Khan have also expressed deep sense of grief and sorrow over the sad demise of Begum Kulsoom Nawaz.
They expressed sympathy with the bereaved family and prayed for the eternal peace of the departed soul.
Meanwhile, Central president of Awami National Party Asfandyar Wali Khan also condoled the death of Kulsoom Nawaz.
