A Washington based online magazine the Diplomat says extremist Hindutva activists in India are enforcing rigid code of Hindu culture to make the country a Hindu authoritarian state.
In a report, the magazine said it is no longer 'Incredible India' but 'Intolerant India.
The Diplomat's correspondent Kavita Chowdhury said this year's Diwali-related advertisements faced "backlash" from Hindutva activists for using Urdu words.
The report said Islamophobia in India has escalated to ridiculous heights.
It said Urdu is not the sole preserve of Muslims in the country, but Urdu words are widely used in everyday speech and literary texts of Hindustani language.
