International Day for Tolerance is being observed on Saturday (16 November, 2019) to promote non-violence and spirit of tolerance across the world.

Tolerance recognizes the universal human rights and fundamental freedoms of others and only tolerance can ensure the survival of mixed communities in every region of the globe.

In 1996, the UN General Assembly invited UN Member States to observe the International Day for Tolerance on this day.
