Naghmana Hashmi (Former Ambassador to China): The experience of the past 70 years has proved that China-Pakistan friendship and cooperation are not only in the fundamental interests of the two countries, but also conducive to regional and global peace and stability. Both the countries are committed to building a more just, democratic and reasonable multi-polar international order. The CPEC has served as a catalyst for socio-economic development in Pakistan. Several projects are being implemented under CPEC, for enhancement of infrastructure and generation of energy. People-to-people contacts are an important aspect of the bilateral relationship. Pakistan and China are iron brothers, and no hostile forces will be allowed to damage brotherly relations between the two countries. China supports Pakistan’s narratives on key regional disputes, including the Kashmir dispute
Masood Khalid (Former Ambassador to China):Pakistan has a long and strong relationship history with China. The long-standing ties between the two countries have been mutually beneficial. A close identity of views and mutual interests remain the center-point of bilateral ties. Since the 1962 Sino-Indian War, Pakistan has supported China on most issues of importance to the latter, especially those related to Taiwan and Tibet and other sensitive issues such as human rights. The Chinese leadership has acknowledged Pakistan's steadfast support on key issues. China also has a consistent record of supporting Pakistan in regional issues.
Dr. Huma Baqai (Expert on International Relations): It is a good gesture that Chinese company has restored the employment contract of Pakistani personnel working on Dasu Hydropower Project. Pakistan and China remain are committed to timely completion of Dasu Hydropower and other projects being undertaken with Chinese cooperation. Pakistan was one of the first countries that recognized the People’s Republic of China. Over the years, the relationship has blossomed into an “All-Weather Strategic Cooperative Partnership”. Pakistan considers China as one of its closest friend and partner and China considers Pakistan as its “Iron Brother”. The bilateral relations between the two neighboring countries are characterized by feelings of mutual trust, respect and goodwill towards each other. There is a regular exchange of visits at the highest level between the two countries. The strategic cooperation between Pakistan and China has grown over the past several decades. The deteriorating situation in Afghanistan is posing serious threat and challenges to Pakistan.
Mirza Ikhtiyar Baig (Economist): Currently, China is Pakistan’s largest single trading partner; while Pakistan is China’s second largest trading partner in South Asia. Major imports from China include machinery and mechanical appliances, metals, chemical products, mineral ores, plastic scrap and transport equipment. Main exports include cotton yarn, cotton fabric, rice, leather and fish productsChina-Pakistan Economic Corridor is a framework of regional connectivity. The CPEC will not only benefit China and Pakistan, but will have positive impacts on Iran, Afghanistan, India, Central Asian Republic, and the region. The CPEC is hope of better region of the future with peace, development and growth of economy. Progress on China-Pakistan Economic Corridor has been continuing at a fast pace, despite difficulties caused by COVID-19. The Special Economic Zones under the CPEC will promote industrialization of Pakistan and uplift country’s economy.
