Chairman National Accountability Bureau Justice (retd) Javed Iqbal has said that NAB is striving for corruption-free Pakistan and mega corruption cases will be taken to their logical conclusion on priority basis.
Chairing a meeting in Islamabad he said that the cases involving smaller amounts would be sent to the relevant anti-corruption institutions for concluding the investigation and inquiries on merit within ten months. He said that due to the use of latest technology and training programmes to enhance capability of its officers, conviction rate in NAB is 77 percent. He said that due to the efforts of NAB against corruption Pakistan's ranking has improved by nine points according to the international competition indicators.
The meeting was apprised that NAB recovered 2,580 million rupees from corrupt elements and deposited in the national exchequer during the tenure of its existing chairman, which is a record achievement.
The meeting was briefed that NAB apprehended 503 people during last 12 months, received 44,315 complaints out of which 1,713 complaints were scrutinized, inquiries were held against 877 people and investigations were launched against 227 people, whereas 440 corruption references were filed in various accountability courts.
