AJK Legislative Assembly elections: counting of votes underway

After conclusion of polling process for the general elections of Azad Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly in a peaceful environment today (Sunday), the counting of votes continues.

The polling process began at 0800 hours and continued till 5:00 p.m in the evening without break.

More than three point two million registered voters were eligible to exercise their right to vote to elect their representatives for the Azad Kashmir Legislative Assembly’s next term.

AJK Election Commission had made all-out arrangements for free, fair, and transparent elections.

Over 40,000 security personnel including Pak Army, FC, Rangers and police were deployed in all constituencies of AJK to ensure a peaceful atmosphere for the polling process.

The security staff will remain present till the declaration of the official results at the offices of the district returning officers.

The Kashmiris living in Pakistan also exercised their right of vote for 12 constituencies meant for Jammu and Kashmir refugees settled in various cities of the country.

A total of 587 candidates are in the urn on 33 constituencies of Azad Kashmir districts while 121 candidates are vying for 12 constituencies of Jammu and Kashmir refugees settled in Pakistan.

5118 polling stations were set up in all three divisions, Muzaffarabad, Poonch, and Mirpur.

The election scheduled for 8 reserved seats will be announced after the general elections.
