UNICEF has warned that ten million children in Afghanistan are in desperate need of humanitarian assistance urging two hundred million dollars in food aid immediately to save the lives of children.

Executive Director of World Food Programme David Beasley said in a statement that one-third of the Afghan population face food insecurity because of several years of drought, conflict and economic deterioration, compounded by COVID.

Meanwhile, the US and its Western allies are stepping up evacuation efforts after US President Biden stuck to an August 31 deadline to withdraw troops from Afghanistan.

More than 70,000 people, foreigners and Afghans, have been evacuated since August 14, the day before the Taliban swept into Kabul.

On the other hand the World Bank has suspended aid to Afghanistan, freezing hundreds of millions in funding.

Meanwhile, Russia has allowed about 1,000 Afghans to enter the country from Afghanistan.

Moreover, Chinese President Xi Jinping and Russian President Vladimir Putin exchanged views on Afghanistan in a call.

Chinese President Xi, urged all parties in Afghanistan to build an open and inclusive political framework, implement moderate, stable policies and cut ties with all terrorists.
