Pakistan calls for equitable representation in UNSC
March 28, 2018

Pakistan has called for equitable representation on the United Nations Security Council by adding more non-permanent members.

Pakistan Ambassador to the UN, Dr. Maleeha Lodhi said this while speaking in the Inter-governmental Negotiations on Security Council Reform at the United Nations.

She said that equitable representation has been the primary impulse behind all Security Council reform efforts.

Criticizing the Group of Four position Maleeha Lodhi said they have shown no flexibility in their campaign for expanding the Security Council by 10 seats, with 6 additional permanent and four non-permanent members.

On the other hand, Italy-Pakistan-led Uniting for Consensus group says that additional permanent members will not make the Security Council more effective.
