NA, Senate pass Anti-Terrorism (Amendment) Bill 2020, UNSC (Amendment) Bill 2020

The National Assembly on Thursday passed The Anti-Terrorism (Amendment) Bill, 2020 and The United Nations (Security Council) (Amendment) Bill, 2020”. The bills were moved by Advisor on Parliamentary Affairs Babar Awan.

The House has been adjourned to meet again on 7th of the next month at 5 p.m.

Earlier, The Senate on Thursday passed “The Anti-Terrorism (Amendment) Bill, 2020” and “The United Nations (Security Council) (Amendment) Bill, 2020”.

The bills were moved by Adviser to the Prime Minister on Parliamentary Affairs Babar Awan.

Chairman Standing Committee of the Upper House on Law and Justice Javed Abbasi presented reports on these bills.

Speaking on the occasion, he said the opposition was not against legislation related to FATF to fulfill Pakistan’s international obligations.

He said Opposition’s only concern was that no legislation can be used against the citizens of Pakistan.

Javed Abbasi thanked the Law Minister and the government side for incorporating amendments proposed by the Opposition for the legislation.

Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi thanked the Senate members for approving the legislation related to FATF and foiling the Indian designs to push Pakistan towards FATF’s black list.

Speaking on floor of the House, he said Pakistan has undertaken this legislation in compliance of its obligations to implement International Court of Justice’s judgment in Indian spy Kulbhushan Jadhav case.

Regarding issuance of International Court of Justice (Review and Re-consideration) Ordinance, 2020, the Foreign Minister said it was also a step to fulfill Pakistan’s international obligations. He dispelled the impression that any concession has been granted to Indian spy Kulbhushan Jadhav by making new laws.

Shah Mahmood expressed the confidence that after this legislation Pakistan will come out of the FATF grey list as it has fulfilled all the requirements in this respect.

Minister for Communications Murad Saeed said the NHA has officially approved the design of Dir-Chitral road and construction work on this project will start from March next year.

Responding to the points, he said the project is part of the PSDP 2020-21 and work on its feasibility has started.

The Minister said in the next Joint Coordination Committee of CPEC we will stress on the completion of more projects of western route.
