Analysts call for peaceful, smooth transition of power in Kabul
August 30, 2021

Dr. Amna Mehmood (IR Expert): Afghanistan is a multiethnic society and they have their own interests. It is a complicated and challenging task to bring them on table and convince them on a single power sharing formula. Taliban have emerged as a sagacious political group and are going to form a stable government in Afghanistan. Presence of ISIS in Afghanistan is an alarming situation for all stakeholders. There are some elements that do not want a smooth transition of power in Afghanistan for their own malicious interests. Pakistan is always there to facilitate Afghanistan in any manner. Islamabad wants a stable government in Kabul. China and Russia have always played a leading role in resolving the regional issues. The United States intentionally created a vacuum in Afghanistan to maintain its presence in the region. Iran is also playing its role to sustain peace in Afghanistan. Rise of regionalism in South Asia is a welcoming development. The United States is using India as a proxy to contain the influence of China and Russia. India is safeguarding the interests of the United States in this region. The Indian role in Taliban's Afghanistan would be minimal. India would never compromise on its investment in Afghanistan. Pakistan is playing a key role to resolve the regional issues.

Lt. Gen. (Retd.) Raza Muhammad Khan (Defense Analyst): Pakistan desires an inclusive government and peaceful transition of power in Afghanistan. Let's hope that eventually there will be a stable government in Kabul. Peace in Afghanistan is in the best interest of the entire region. Peace spoilers would continue destabilizing Afghanistan, Pakistan and the entire region for their strategic interests. The regional powers must monitor the post withdrawal situation closely. There are also risks of terrorists arriving under the guise of refugees and spread of coronavirus. The government of Pakistan must ensure the vaccinations of Afghan refugees.

Dr. Zahid Anwar Khan (IR Expert): The peace spoilers in Afghanistan are making hectic efforts to sabotage the peaceful transition of power in Kabul. Pakistan has always endorsed every initiative taken for Afghan peace. The transitional phase is very critical. The regional powers must make collective efforts to sustain durable peace in Afghanistan. Pakistan would support an inclusive government in Afghanistan. Peace in Afghanistan is the utmost priority of regional stakeholders. India is frustrated due to the Taliban's takeover of Afghanistan. The people of Afghanistan deserve to live peacefully. The negative forces must refrain from jeopardizing the peace process. Hopefully, the international troops would leave Afghanistan without any delay.
