President Dr Arif Alvi has emphasized the need to promote distance education and e-learning for being affordable to a lot of people.

Speaking at a briefing on Virtual University of Pakistan in Aiwan-e-Sadr Islamabad, he called for expanding the outreach of the Virtual University so that students from remote areas of the country can benefit from online education.

The President asked the VU management to chalk out a new vision and future plans for the university to meet the requirements of the digital age and set timelines to achieve its goals and objectives.

Rector VU Professor Dr Arshad Saleem Bhatti briefing the meeting about the role of the university, said currently 100,000 students are enrolled in various disciplines.

The university, besides broadcasting lectures and over its own four TV channels, is providing digital skills to its students.
