Permanent Representative of Pakistan to the UN Ambassador Munir Akram has urged the international community to help Afghanistan to revive its economy.
In his statement at United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs briefing on Afghanistan, he said thousands of human lives were saved through continued humanitarian assistance.
He said Pakistan and the Islamic countries in the region are also engaging with Afghan interim government for women rights. He said Ulemas have been repeatedly sent to Afghanistan to try to convince interim government that their practices are not consistent with Islam.
He said on the Eighth of the next month a conference will be convened in New York.
He said Pakistan's Foreign Minister will host a conference on the issue of women in Islam as another way of conveying a message of what are the standards and freedoms and rights that women enjoy under Islam.
