The Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) has denied the reports that it has proposed a nine-month transition period in Niger, where the military deposed President Mohamed Bazoum last month.

In a statement on X former twitter, the bloc said the report is false and should be treated as fake news.

The statement underscored that the bloc member states maintain their demand that military authorities in Niger should restore constitutional order immediately by liberating and reinstating President Mohamed Bazoum.
