India saw the highest level of religious hostilities during the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020 by blaming Muslims for spreading the virus.
According to a Pew Research Center's report, India scored 9.4 out of 10 on the Social Hostilities Index as slamophobic hashtags like #CoronaJihad circulated widely on social media.
The report stated that Muslims were attacked and the Tabhligi Jamaat members were booked accusing Muslims of purposefully spreading the virus.
A BJP legislator from the state of Uttar Pradesh had called for a boycott of Muslim vendors, accusing them of infecting vegetables with saliva.
