China has called on the international community to fully respect the sovereignty and ownership of Ethiopia on the issue of Tigray region.

Addressing the UN Security Council meeting on peace and security in Africa, China's Deputy Permanent Representative to United Nations, said the Security Council should prudently handle the settlement of Tigray issue ensuring a positive role in improving the situation.

The Chinese envoy also welcomed Ethiopian Government's recent announcement of unilateral ceasefire in Tigray.
