Youm-e-Istehsal: Hurriyat leader calls for peaceful settlement of Kashmir dispute
August 03, 2024

Chairman Kashmir Institute of International Relations and Hurriyat Leader Altaf Hussain Wani says Jammu and Kashmir is a UN recognized disputed territory and Kashmir dispute should be resolved peacefully on the basis of right to self-determination.

In an exclusive interview with Radio Pakistan, he said illegal and unilateral actions taken by India on August 5, 2019 are gross violations of all United Nations Security Council’s resolutions on Jammu and Kashmir.

He said United Nations Security Council Resolutions clearly maintain that no assembly has any power to decide on behalf of state of Jammu and Kashmir or part of it. So, neither Indian parliament, nor Supreme Court or the President of India have any legal standing to take decision over sovereignty of Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir.

Altaf Hussain Wani said India has been using its military might to suppress the legitimate aspirations of the people of IIOJK.

He criticized India for its claims of development and normalcy in Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir.

He said since August 5, 2019, Kashmiris have been stripped of their identity and all their economic, social and political rights by the Hindutva regime.

The Chairman Kashmir Institute of International Relations said that India's development claims are designed to bolster its grip on the territory, offering no benefits to the common citizens.

He said, India has employed various tactics to cement its illegal occupation of IIOJK, including altering a series of laws such as the domicile law, which now guarantees jobs, voting rights, and land ownership to non-locals in the disputed territory.

Altaf Hussain Wani said that India is attempting to change the religious landscape of IIOJK.

He said Narendra Modi regime is now planning to construct around fifty thousand temples, with funds and land already allocated for these Hindu projects.

He said youth can play an important role in promoting Kashmir cause and highlighting the plight of Kashmiris through the effective use of digital platforms.
