November 03, 2026

Afghan Supreme Leader Hibatullah Akhundzada has been included in the list of thirty three world figures who have imposed restrictions on press freedom.

According to global media watchdog Reporters Without Borders, the Afghan Taliban regime has imposed severe restrictions on the media through more than twenty government notifications and several provincial orders.

Reporters Without Borders said the restrictions include bans on criticism of the Taliban regime, coverage of women's rights, political discussions and broadcasting images of living beings.

Due to these severe restrictions, Afghanistan has fallen to 175th position among 180 countries in the World Press Freedom Index.
