November 04, 2026

Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar has directed relevant authorities to maintain strategic reserves of sugar to fulfill national demand while ensuring that there is no upward pressure on retail prices.

He was presiding over a meeting of the Cabinet Committee on the Export of Surplus Sugar in Islamabad today.

The Deputy Prime Minister emphasized that while exporting surplus commodities is essential to strengthen the agricultural economy and earn valuable foreign exchange, safeguarding domestic consumers remains the primary priority for the government.

Ishaq Dar thanked all committee members for their valuable contributions and commended their collective effort in facilitating the smooth export of surplus sugar.

The meeting evaluated ongoing measures to streamline the export of surplus sugar alongside finalizing the administrative, technical, and procedural frameworks.

Current stock levels and domestic consumption requirements were thoroughly assessed to ensure that sugar exports will not impact domestic price stability.
