Pakistan has underscored the need for stronger political coordination between the United Nations and African Union, emphasizing that African ownership must remain at the center of international efforts to address the peace and security challenges facing the continent.
Pakistan’s Deputy Permanent Representative to the UN, Usman Jadoon, made these remarks while speaking at the Security Council briefing on UN cooperation with regional and subregional organizations, with special reference to the African Union.
He said the UN–AU partnership had developed a strong institutional foundation, but must now deliver greater political coherence and tangible results on the ground.
Usman Jadoon also called for the UN–AU partnership to cover the full peace continuum from prevention and mediation to peace operations, peacebuilding and counter-terrorism.
