Qaiser Ahmad Shaikh (Federal Minister for Maritime Affairs): Pakistan has greater potential to cater the transportation needs of Central Asian Republics (CARs) and Russia. Our seaports have capacity to handle the trade goods from our neighbouring countries. Today maritime sector is playing key role in the development of national economy. This sector also plays major in the global economy. We have capacity of generate higher revenue through our seaports. Now we can handle containers in larger quantities due to our upgraded Gwadar and Karachi ports. It can reduce the freight charges and cost of trade good. Due to the improved business environment and economic policies international shipping firms are looking forward to invest in Pakistani seaports. Head of International Maritime Agency has highlighted huge potential of Gadani shipyard in the shipwrecking industry. Moreover, we need to increase the working hours at our ports as well as we may upgrade our connectivity of ports to our national highways and motorways network for speedy transportation of goods.  We can increase our GDP growth through direct investment and creating conducive political environment for investment. We can add value-added products to our exports for generating more foreign exchange. Thus we can improve our balance of trade and current account balance. We can also create more jobs for our youth in this regard. We have high hopes with our well-conceived and well planned Uraan Pakistan Program.
