PM hails $2b investment from A.P. Moller-Maersk in Pakistan

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has welcomed the investment of worth two billion dollars in Pakistan by the global shipping company A.P Moller - Maersk.

He was talking to Chairman Board of Directors of A.P Moller - Maersk Robert Maersk in Islamabad on Tuesday.

The Prime Minister directed that the memorandums signed with A.P. Moller - Maersk last year be promptly converted into agreements. He also instructed the formation of a technical working group to expedite the process of creating a maritime sector collaboration agreement with the company. The working group was tasked with presenting recommendations within a month.

The Prime Minister emphasized the need to remove all obstacles and bring the maritime sector up to global competitive standards. He remarked that A.P Moller - Maersk's investment in Pakistan would bring significant positive changes to the country's maritime sector.

Shehbaz Sharif highlighted Pakistan's abundant marine resources and the government's efforts to utilize them for the nation's benefit.

He said Pakistan's importance as a trade and transport corridor in the region has increased.

The Prime Minister stressed the necessity of establishing Pakistan as a reliable and effective economic corridor for transit trade in the region to boost the country's economy. He invited A.P Moller - Maersk to explore further investment opportunities in Pakistan.

Robert Maersk expressed interest in investing in Pakistan's seaports and praised the government's economic policies, describing them as attractive for investment. He mentioned that A.P Moller - Maersk's clients worldwide have shown interest in investment and business opportunities in Pakistan. He added that the company's first ship arrived in the region in 1924, and today, their relations with Pakistan are stronger than ever.

Maersk highlighted Pakistan's key role as an economic corridor for trade with Central Asian countries, which is of great importance to the company. He expressed the company's commitment to modernizing logistics systems at Pakistan's ports and equipping them with advanced technology to establish a unique hub for maritime trade in the region.
