Pakistan to seek re-election to Geneva-based UNHRC
July 08, 2020

Pakistan has decided to seek re-election to the Geneva-based UN Human Rights Council (UNHRC), which has 47 elected members.

In a note verbal to UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres, the Pakistani Mission to the world body said Pakistan will contest one of the four seats reserved for Asia Pacific Group of States for 2021-2023 term.

Pakistan's current term will expire at the end of this year.

Pakistan has already served on the Human Rights Council four times since its creation.

The UN General Assembly will hold elections to fill the vacant seats of the Council in October during its 75th session.
