Manipur crisis escalates under Modi Govt’s watch
September 08, 2024

In India, minorities are increasingly fighting for their fundamental rights and survival as the country faces intense ethnic, linguistic, and religious tensions under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s third term.

The extremist policies of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)-led government are even posing threat to people of their own country.

Currently, many communities across various states in India are deprived of their basic rights and are in direct conflict with the government. Manipur, in particular, is engulfed in flames of devastation, yet the Modi administration appears to be exacerbating the situation rather than resolving it.

Recent reports reveal that the central region of Imphal Valley has been placed under a renewed curfew, with Indian troops surrounding the area. Separatists have launched rocket attacks in Bishnupur district of Manipur, damaging a community hall and several homes. Despite strict curfews and extensive use of state machinery, armed groups continue to target civilian populations.

Previously, five homes in a nearby village of Manipur were set ablaze, marking a new chapter of extremism in the Imphal valley. Armed members of the Kuki community have escalated their attacks by using long-range rockets, following earlier drone strikes.

The state police and Indian armed forces are conducting combing operations in Manipur, but these efforts are leading to an increase in extremism. Residents are facing severe hardships due to large-scale search operations, living as refugees within their own country.

The Modi administration’s failure to control the situation in Manipur has led to a dangerous trend of armed groups targeting state machinery. Internationally, there is growing concern over the violence in Manipur.
