World Literacy Day is being observed today to create awareness about the importance of education as well as its essential role in the personal development and progress of society.

This year's theme is 'Promoting Multilingual Education: Literacy for Mutual Understanding and Peace'.

Rallies, seminars, walks and conferences will be held today to highlight the role of literacy as a fundamental human right.
