Federal Cabinet pays homage to martyrs, their families

Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif has said that May 9, 2023 incidents were a well-hatched conspiracy and rebellion against Pakistan, its institutions and Armed Forces.

Presiding over a special session of the Federal Cabinet which was held in Islamabad today, he said the May 9 sordid plot was also aimed at derailing democracy, abrogating the constitution and establishing a dictatorship of a sole individual in the country.  

He said the special cabinet session is aimed at expressing solidarity with Shuhada and heroes and that the nation will always remember them and their families. He said the special cabinet session also gives a message of integrity and cohesion in the society. 

The Prime Minister said May 9 was also an organized plot to create rift among Pakistani people and leading the country towards anarchy and chaos. He said these events also tarnished our relations with friendly brother countries.

Shehbaz Sharif said no country can tolerate well-orchestrated attacks on military installations and disgrace of the monuments of its Shuhada and heroes.

The Prime Minister said a malicious campaign is still going on through social media to malign Pakistan, its institution, Armed forces of Pakistan and its leadership. He said the nefarious plot was also revolt against Pakistan, its Armed Forces and Army Chief General Syed Asim Munir.

He said efforts are also being made to conceal irrefutable evidence and facts regarding these riots. However, he said truth always prevails and falsehood exposed.

He said except May 9, whenever Pakistan faced any untoward incidents, the leadership raised slogan of "Pakistan Khappay" and never attacked military installations and created anarchy in the  country.

The Prime Minister said this special cabinet session represents the 250 million people of Pakistan and gives message of unity and integrity.   

He said the incumbent government is trying its best to repair the relations tarnished by May 9 events.

The Prime Minister said today, we have to renew pledge that we will work for peace, prosperity, development and economic revival of Pakistan through collective efforts.

He said through collective efforts of the coalition partners, we have put our economy on right track and positive trajectory.

In his remarks, leader of Pakistan People's Party Syed Naveed Qamar said trails should be initiated against those who are responsible for May 9 riots. He said those responsibles for these incidents should be taken to task.

Ijaz-ul-Haq of Pakistan Muslim League-Zia said accused of May 9 events should be punished. He also called for bringing together all political party on minimum agenda for development of the country.

Aleem Khan of Istehkam e Pakistan Party said it is a dark day in the history of Pakistan. He said Pakistan is our Red Line, and nobody can even think to cross it. He said the nation will never pardon those who crossed this red line. 

Minister for Law and Justice Azam Nazeer Tarar said the then government has constituted a committee to probe into these incidents, which held PTI leadership responsible for these incidents after an in-depth investigation. 

The Minister also tabled the committee's report in this special session of the Federal Cabinet.
