The seventy-eighth death anniversary of renowned Urdu poet Akhtar Sheerani is being observed today (Wednesday).

He is considered to be one of the leading romantic poets of Urdu language.

His famous works include Akhtaristan, Nigarshat-e-Akhtar, Lala-e-Toor, Tayyur-e-Aawara, Naghma-e-Haram, Subh-e-Bahaar, and Shahnaz.

He remained editor of literary magazines Intikhab, Bahaaristan, Khyaalistan and Romaan.

He died on this day in Lahore in 1948.
