Pakistan’s economy improving at macroeconomic level: PM

Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif says the foundation of Pakistan’s economy at the macro-economic level has been gradually improving since last year.

Talking to Pakistani investors and businessmen in Dubai, he said the inflation has decreased to 2.4 percent in January this year, while the policy rate is at 12 percent.

The Prime Minister said that Pakistan's exports, including IT exports, are on the rise, and foreign remittances have reached a record high of three billion dollars in January this year. He said Pakistan’s economic landscape has witnessed stability at macroeconomic level following agreement with the International Monetary Fund.

The Prime Minister said the government’s target is to achieve economic growth and for that we need to keep heading in the right direction.

He said the major areas where we can speed up economic growth, include mines and minerals, information technology and artificial intelligence, agriculture and converting production into value added products.

The Prime Minister said Pakistan is blessed with abundance of mines and mineral reserves worth trillions of dollars. He said the government has achieved a substantial progress in this sector.

Coming to Information Technology potential, the Prime Minister said sixty percent of our total population aging between fifteen to thirty years are youth. He said imparting proper training to the youth in Artificial Intelligence, Information Technology and creating job opportunities for them can really turn around our economy.

About agriculture sector, Shehbaz Sharif said Pakistan has been blessed with a lot of agriculture resources. However, we could not tap this potential in the past many decades. He said our government is dispatching one thousand fresh agri-graduates to China for getting training in various fields of agriculture. He said the government of Pakistan is funding this project.

Elaborating fourth challenge of converting production into value added products, the Prime Minister said Pakistan has been lagging behind in this field. But the government is also making tireless efforts to achieve this challenge.

Shehbaz Sharif said if we focus on these areas with complete dedication and commitment, not only we will be able to compensate the past, but move forward with speed. He said as a nation we must put our efforts as a team to achieve success. He said it is always a team work which can transform any society.
