Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb has reaffirmed commitment that protecting citizens from rising global fuel prices remains the government's top priority.
Responding to a calling attention notice in the Senate today, he said the government gave 129 billion rupees subsidy on petroleum products over a three-week period during the initial phase of the Middle East conflict.
The Finance Minister said the government subsequently transitioned to a targeted subsidy model to ensure that the benefits reached the public directly.
He noted that this targeted relief specifically shielded motorcyclists, the transport sector and small-scale farmers.
He said approximately 800,000 bikers have already benefited from this initiative, with 1.53 billion rupees disbursed so far through a highly transparent process.
The Finance Minister highlighted that FBR revenue collection has effectively doubled under the current government's efforts, rising from seven trillion rupees to nearly thirteen trillion rupees.
Taking the floor on the issue of Azad Jammu and Kashmir, Prime Minister's Advisor on Political Affairs Rana Sanaullah, said the government made every effort to resolve the issues through negotiations but the banned Joint Action Committee unfortunately resorted to violence.
He said the Azad Jammu and Kashmir Supreme Court's opinion on the Presidential Reference has also validated the government's stance on refugee seats, rejecting the politics of protests.
The Advisor further asserted that the Azad Jammu and Kashmir government would deal with Indian puppets in accordance with the law.
Meanwhile, the Senate passed five bills today.
These include; "The Motion Pictures (Amendment) Bill, 2024", "The Travel Agencies (Amendment) Bill, 2026", "The Pakistan Tourist Guides (Amendment) Bill, 2026", "The Pakistan Hotels and Restaurants (Amendment) Bill, 2026" and "The Pakistan International Airlines Corporation (Conversion) (Repeal) Bill, 2026."
