Foreign Minister Makhdoom Shah Mahmood Qureshi visited the Foreign Ministry of Spain in Madrid today (Tuesday) where he was welcomed by his Spanish counterpart José Manuel Albare.

The two Foreign Ministers discussed important regional and global issues, including bilateral relations, trade and economic partnership and agreed to further strengthen relations between the two countries in all fields.

Talking on the occasion, Shah Mahmood Qureshi said similarity in the perspectives of the two countries on regional and international issues, including the fight against terrorism and UN reforms, is a welcome sign.

He said with over 220 million of population, Pakistan is an attractive market for foreign investment in different sectors.  He said there are vast investment opportunities for Spanish investors in Pakistan in various sectors including textiles, housing and construction, pharmaceuticals, renewable energy, agriculture and sports goods.

The Foreign Minister called on Spain to play its effective role in providing immediate assistance by the European Union to the people of Afghanistan to protect them from the humanitarian catastrophe. He said that only a peaceful, stable and strong Afghanistan would bring peace, stability and prosperity to the region.
