Pakistan urges world to take cognizance of threat by TTP, Daesh
February 11, 2025

At the United Nations, Pakistan has urged the international community to take greater cognizance of the renewed terrorist threat posed by the TTP, the Majeed Brigade and Daesh.

In a statement at the UN Security Council briefing on "Threats to International Peace and Security Caused by Terrorist Acts," Pakistan’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Munir Akram said this threat is not only to Afghanistan and Pakistan, but to the entire region and beyond.

He emphasized that Pakistan strongly rejects any implication that ISIL-K/Daesh recruitment is taking place inside the country.

He unequivocally stated that over two dozen terrorist groups are operating inside Afghanistan, which is also the "main hub for ISIL-K's recruitment and facilitation," as confirmed by the UN Monitoring Team’s recent report.

Ambassador Munir Akram demanded that those responsible for the situation take these assessments into account. He asserted that the threat posed by these terrorist groups and their affiliates, which are well documented in the reports of the Secretary-General and the Monitoring Team, must be addressed.

He said, Pakistan, after successfully dismantling Al-Qaeda and other terrorist groups within its borders, continues to confront terrorist threats such as the TTP, Daesh, and the Majeed Brigade, which operate from safe havens across its borders.

Munir Akram expressed Pakistan’s strong condemnation of terrorism in all its forms and manifestations, highlighting that Pakistan remains at the forefront of global counter-terrorism efforts and has been a principal target of terrorist attacks, paying a heavy price of eighty thousand innocent lives lost and incurring enormous damage to its economy.
