In the United States, 23rd anniversary of September 11, 2001 attacks is being observed today.  

Nearly three thousand people were killed when hijackers crashed four jetliners into the twin towers in New York, Pentagon and a field in southwest Pennsylvania on Sept. 11, 2001.
