Election of Sadiq Sanjrani, Mirza Muhammad Afridi to ensure supremacy of Parliament: PTI Senators

Senators of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) say election of Sadiq Sanjrani and Mirza Muhammad Afridi of the ruling alliance as Senate Chairman and Deputy Chairman respectively will help strengthen democracy, and ensure rule of law and supremacy of Parliament in the country.  

Talking to News and Current Affairs Channel of Radio Pakistan after the election, PTI Senator Faisal Javed said Prime Minister Imran Khan always accorded top priority to eradication of corruption, whereas Pakistan Democratic Movement (PDM) of opposition parties is aimed at safeguarding corrupt elements at all levels.  He further said that the incumbent government is taking special measures to overcome challenges, including inflation and poverty. Faisal Javed expressed the confidence that Prime Minister Imran Khan will soon announce a massive relief package for the common masses.  

Speaking on the occasion, PTI Senator Waleed Iqbal said the PTI-led government is determined to make legislation in the best interest of the people of Pakistan. He said the government always focused on human development and will continue to work for the same during in the future. He expressed the confidence that entire international community is acknowledging the measures taken by the incumbent government to overcome challenges, including COVID-19 pandemic.

In her remarks, PTI Senator Fawzia Arshad said in the past, opposition parties had been creating hurdles in introducing reforms and their only priority remained to safeguard their personal interests. She said the focus of the government is to introduce policies, which are aimed at ensuring protection of women rights and gender equality.

Taking part in the discussion, PTI Senator Barrister Ali Zafar said today’s Senate polls remained transparent due to which candidates of ruling alliance got victory. He expressed the confidence that Prime Minister Imran Khan is committed to bring transparency and end horse-trading in the electoral process of Pakistan. He further said that Prime Minister Imran Khan wants to take the country towards development, progress and prosperity while the Opposition wants to safeguard personal interests instead of serving the nation. He opined that today’s victory of Sadiq Sanjrani will help strengthen the Parliament and democracy.

Concluding the debate, PTI Senator Dr. Zarqa Taimur said that PDM’s politics revolves around personal interests and today’s election has buried their ill intentions. She further said the PTI government will soon introduce comprehensive electoral reforms to ensure transparency in the polling process, which include electronic and open voting. She said that PTI wants to make the electoral process credible so that losing candidates accept their defeat open heartedly.
