The United States has welcomed the ceasefire announcement by Afghan government and Taliban on the eve of Eid ul Fitr and has urged all parties in Afghanistan to engage in serious negotiations for a political settlement and permanent ceasefire.               

Talking to newsmen at his daily press briefing in Washington, US State Department spokesman Ned Price reiterated the US commitment for peace in Afghanistan.
